This interactive course for school administrators focuses on federal and state policies regarding special education and provides strategies for working with Indian children with special needs. (1 unit)

Summer Institute I
Designed for classroom Para-professionals working with children with special needs.
SERP 399: Teaching Issues for American Indian Children with Special Needs: Training for Para- educators in Indian Schools (June 12-15)
This one week campus course is team-taught and provides a history of special education for Indian children, policies and regulations regarding special education, an overview of major types of disability conditions seen in the classroom, issues of language and culture in the classroom, and discussion of teaching strategies for children with special needs.

Regional Institutes
SERP 399/599: Regional Special Ed Teachers Institutes
These regional three-day courses for Special Education and General Education teachers provide exposure to current policies regarding special education requirements and current research about behavioral management, inclusion, writing IEPs, computer skills, etc. This interactive Institutes allow for networking and exchange of information and techniques.
The four regional institutes are scheduled as follows:
- Ft. Apache , Jan 18-20, 2005
- Pima/Papago, Feb 9-10, 2005
- Sacramento , March 2005
- Hopi Agency, April 2005
Other SEPTA Regional Training Programs:
Training for residential staff. These workshops will be held in August 2005 at (1) Sherman Indian High School (SIHS)dormitory in Riverside , CA , for SIHS staff and (2) Theodore Roosevelt Boarding School in Whiteriver , AZ , for residential staff serving schools in Arizona.
AILDI participants enroll in six graduate or undergraduate credit hours, working with linguists, tribal elders, bilingual/ESL specialists, teachers, teacher aides, and school administrators in an integrated, holistic learning experience. All courses lead toward regular degree programs and toward bilingual and ESL endorsements. (6 units)
